Welcome to Airport IMC, as in Integrated Marketing Communications. (More on this in a bit.)
This blog was launched for one specific purpose: to start the dialogue for AAAE’s Social Media @Airports webinar that took place December 1. The blog lives on, primarily to discuss, debate, and simply recognize the rapidly evolving and continuously improving efforts in airport marketing and communications/public affairs.
we were ramping up for a social media webinar, why is the blog called Airport “IMC?” Simple: because, as great and cool and ubiquitous as social media is becoming, it’s still just part of a well-planned marketing and communications plan–preferably an integrated one. And I don’t want to do anything to suggest otherwise.
A couple of disclaimers: First off, there will be examples on this blog of pretty cool (in my view, anyway) marketing and communications efforts. Inevitably, some of those efforts will, directly or indirectly, involve one airport dumping on another. Don’t misinterpret praise for the tactics as endorsement of their contents. I love all airports equally.
Secondly, while I remain gainfully employed by the world’s greatest airport association as the external communications director, what’s said on this blog comes from me. In other words, feel free to credit my employers for all brilliance found herein, but please don’t blame them for any perceived stupidity.
Got something cool to share that your airport (or one you know of) is doing? Drop me a line anytime at email@example.com.
Looking forward to following the smart and creative people that work to shine spotlights on our airports.
